Depth Psychology: Wood is a symbol of the habits, opinions, and ideas that you have been raised with; they are a part of your personality.

A dream about wood is a challenge: think critically about your traits (or they will become “petrified”). Begin now building a new life (like building new furniture from old wood). Is the wood in the dream still green or dried and knotty? Is the wood already decaying”? If it is—it is high time to start building something new!

Interpretation 3 — Klaus Vollmar

Symbol for mobility, warmth, and naturalness. Important is the condition and type of wood; for example, Firewood and Ebony.

In the I Ching, wood means gentleness, that which penetrates, like the wind, and it is related to the first daughter.

According to Freud, wood is a symbol for femininity. However, in the Tarot, wood corresponds to the wand which—according to traditional as well as modern interpretation—is connected to masculinity. This is an example of how contradictory meanings can be in the symbolism of depth psychology. At a certain level of consciousness, the difference between masculinity and femininity loses its importance. This higher level of consciousness is mirrored in everyday life where some symbols can be seen as typically feminine as well as masculine, in accordance with the present state of consciousness of the dreamer.

Folklore: Bad omen.

Interpretation 4 — Stephen Girard

To dream you are cutting or chopping wood, clearly shows that you will be happy in your family, and become rich and respectable in life. To dream you are carrying wood upon your back, shows that yon will rise to affluence by your industrv, but that your partner will be of a bad temper, and your children undutiful. If you dream you are walking or sitting alone in an extensive wood, by a running stream, it denotes that you will be often married. To dream that you are walking or sitting there with the worthy object of your affections, betokens your speedy union, which will prove so felicitous, that you will be called The Happy Couple."

Interpretation 6 — Dr. Mıchael Lennox

Wood is one of the mainstays of our existence and is even considered an element in some of the elemental systems in various cultures. It was not that long ago in human history that everything of strength and fortitude was created out of wood. While today wood is no longer the strongest material we work with, it symbolically represents a desire to create something of substance that simultaneously connects us to the earth in a grounded fashion. Anything made out of wood in a dream is asking you to connect more to nature and your earthly origins.

Interpretation 7 — Martha Clarke

Wood symbolizes the raw material from which you can make new shapes without losing its resilience. Wood is therefore the formation of your personality throughout life. The meaning of the dream varies depending on the type of wood. Dry branches reflect a diluted personality and predict illnesses. Carrying branches on your shoulders is an omen of fruitless effort and suffering. On the contrary, to see the wood cut and ready to use (whether as firewood or for the construction of furniture or sculptures) indicates maturity and preparation.
