And when a lioness gives birth, the young are initially born dead until three days later, when the male lion appears and blows in the face of the young. The lion is, as “king of beasts,” the terrestrial opponent of the eagle in the sky. Because of its wildness, according to Jung, it represents the latent passions and may appear as a signal of the danger of being devoured by the unconscious. In oneiric terms, the lion embodies power, pride, and justice, but often appears as a tyrannical being, cruel and insatiable. It could stand in for a father, teacher, judge, or boss.
